Remember to press “Q” when standing at the armory to access the purchase screen for these weapons. You may only carry one main weapon (those in the list below) at a time, so before buying a new weapon, you must sell the old one.

All Humans who do not choose to build will spawn with the default Rifle, Blaster, and Medkit. In order to purchase more advanced weapons, you must earn credits by killing aliens (see: Getting Started). Something to take into account when going to buy another weapo…

Finding the path (location) where Tremulous is installed

Easiest way to find Trem install path is to use mlocate database. First you have to open a terminal window and log in as root (su) or use sudo with each command. You can also check common tremulous paths section for various locations of Trem binary in different Linux distros.

Spread out across the map

Humans are almost always limited to a single base location. Aliens are not. Eggs can be located all over the map (preferably in dark ceiling corners). This gives aliens the ability to surprise humans by attacking from multiple locations. In many games, if the humans do manage to destroy the overmind, a new OM can quickly be built elsewhere (as long as there are surviving eggs). But don’t egg spam -- on a 100 build point server more than four eggs leaves too lit…

Whereas human bases generally have the same structure and organization through all three stages, the diversity in alien building capabilities across stages means that alien bases must change dramatically throughout the course of a game, if the alien team is to successfully repel human attackers. Below is a stage-by-stage building guide for aliens.

Use that Medkit!

Humans die easily in Tremulous, especially when they don’t use their medkits.

You get a new medkit each time you visit a medistation and regain 100 HP. You should use your medkit on every attack run.

The medkit takes a few seconds to kick in and using it at an appropriate time is difficult to master. Here are some tips, assuming you are up against skilled alien players:
